About Jess Beaudin and Values-Led Media
I’m Jess — a queer, values-led lens-based artist living in Secwepemcúl’ecw (so-called Kamloops, B.C.).
I specialize in analog formats, including 35mm and 120mm film.
My practice is rooted in care, curiosity, and advocacy, and often involves working with the land as an active participant in the creation process.
My work directly and indirectly highlights systemic shortcomings to inspire grassroots change. This is seen most notably in the organic film development process I created, which uses only materials native to BC, in lieu of traditional chemicals that are environmentally degrading. Creation Rooted in Intention
My process is guided by curiosity, care, and accountability. Every project begins with a trauma-informed and values-led lens — one that asks who benefits, who’s represented, and how this work can create positive change.
Community & Collaboration
Photography, videography, and design are all tools for connection. Each project is a collaboration built on trust, creativity, and the goal of helping people feel seen and represented as they are.
Sustainability in Practice
Art shouldn’t harm the environment; it should work with it. I use film developers made from Indigenous plants, like sagebrush and chokecherries, and collaborate with the land across my work to create textures, meaning, connection, and sustainability.
Advocacy Through Art
My work explores the intersections of identity, environment, and justice — using lens-based media as both documentation and resistance to uplift stories and legacies that matter.
